Pay it Forward Day

It was International Pay It Forward Day. How did you Pay It Forward? Did you buy someone's coffee for them? Did you help someone out that didn't really deserve it?

I paid it forward by paying for someone not to have to wear their uniform for a week at work. I'm not telling who it was, it would just ruin the surprise for them.

Day 23 - A picture of your favorite book

My favorite book that I have read this year is "The Hunger Games". I really enjoyed the two that followed also. Cannot wait for the movie!

Alli's Learning Express

Alli's school, Gashland Elementary, had the cutest idea for the Open House this year. It was the "Learning Express". You received a train ticket and there were people around the school dressed up as train conductors. Alli took me around to her classroom, the music room, the gym, the library and showed me her art!

Peyton's Nose Jewlery

I got a call at 4:30 from Peyton's Daycare. An "earring" had been shoved up his nose. It happened at about 10 that morning. I'm not mad at the fact that something was up his nose. I was upset at the fact that no one called me until 4:30! My child had this thing up his nose all day long.

I thought I would have to take him to the hospital to get this extracted from his nose. It was up there pretty good.

First things first though, I had to pick up the other two children and Alli had her schools open house. I figured, it's been up there all day, he can survive another hour.

I showed one of my friends and Girl Scout parents what had happened to him since she is fascinated with gross and disgusting things. :) Turns out her husband, had what was needed to remove it!

Peyton let him do it. The thing came out. It was not an earring.

Three guesses what it is!

Anyway, I am grateful for friends with medical backgrounds and resources. They saved me lots of money and lots of time. And they are just over all cool people and I am thankful to know them.

Peyton is all good!

Day 16 - A picture of someone who inspires you.

I'm not sure on this one! I will edit when I figure it out!

Chamber of Secrets....

READ!

I watched "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" also. It was good. I liked it a lot. Why haven't I read and watched these before now??

Recipe #1: Apple, Cheddar and Bacon Monte Cristos

Recipe is from "Everyday with Rachael Ray"

What you will need: 12 slices of bacon, 8 slices of bread (I used texas toast), sharp cheddar cheese, 2 gala apples, cored and thinly sliced, 3 large eggs, 1/2 cup whole milk, a little nutmeg, butter
Bake the bacon on a broiler pan at 375 degree until just crisp, about 20 minutes.
Arrange 4 slices of bread with some cheese and the apples on top.
Beat the eggs with the milk and a little nutmeg. Heat a large griddle over medium heat. When ready, arrange 3 slices of bacon on each sandwich and top with a little more cheese and 4 more slices of bread.
Coat each sandwich in the egg batter. Grease the griddle with butter and griddle the sandwiches until deep golden on each side and the cheese has melted.
Halve the sandwich and enjoy. I know I did.

Day 15 - A picture of something you want to do before you die.

I want to climb Mount Everest. At least to Base Camp or Advance Base Camp.

North Kansas City District Strings Festival

400 5th Grade Strings Students
Tanner and his teacher, Ms. Overstreet
Tanner and me after the concert!

I was really impressed with all the grades that performed at the show! They all did a beautiful job! Congrats, Tanner! I am so proud of you!

As heard at the strings concert:
"I was gonna tease you and tell you the seat was taken, but you were just too cute and didn't want to hurt your feelings" -- Why thank you!

Random thought:
At my Strings concert, we played the "Jurassic Park" theme, tonight the high school played the "Pirates of the Caribbean" theme.

Day 14 - A picture of someone you could never imagine your life without.

Tearing Rainbows

Supplies needed: Light Blue Construction paper, glue, rainbow colored tissue paper and a book about rainbows or colors.

I started out by reading a book that included all the colors of the rainbow. As we went through the books, the children worked on identifying their colors. When we went over a color, we would pull that color of tissue paper out.

I put them in Rainbow order. One of my favorite acronyms: ROY G BIV
My co-teacher and I handed the colors out to the 2s and let them tear them into little pieces, using the fine motor skills. We ended up with a pile of beautiful colors.

We gave the children glue and blue paper and had them go at it. Look at our results. They are truly beautiful!

Product art vs. process art:

Product based art includes art activities and lessons that will have a specific finished result. These types of projects often look very similar from child to child and do not encourage creativity or artistic exploration.

Process art: These types of art activities should be child centered, open ended, and explorative in nature. In creating specific objectives for processed based art lessons words such as "explore", "experiment with", and "discover" should come into play.

We do process art in my room. Unfortunately, once they move out of my room, into the next classroom, they do a lot of product art. Which looks awesome, but all the same. Once the move to the classroom after that though, they do process art again.

The CVS Prostitutes .

On my break, I ventured to CVS at 39th and Main. I got out of my car and was walking up to the door, when a cab pulled up into the non-parking zone. Two girls got out and walked with an air of importance through the door. I wasn't paying much attention, I was more worried about scanning my card and getting my coupons ($2 off Maybelline Eyeliner). I stared my shopping, when I heard someone yell at the cashier "Get your key and come unlock the condom counter". I looked up, it was one of the girls. Cashier yelled back to her "The pharmacist will do that for you." The girl gave her a bad look and took off. I continued walking around the store. About 5 minutes later, I heard "Man, he was looking at me like a piece of meat." First thing, I noticed was the huge CVS bag filled with Trojans. Next, I noticed her outfit. She was wearing low hanging lounge pants with "Hustler" across the ass, short shirt barely covering anything and a huge tramp stamp. Prostitutes frequenting CVSs now? Well, at least, they are practicing safe sex. Kudos to them.

Bubble Mountains

Supplies needed: water, dish soap, plastic dishes, soap, 2 year olds to blow into the straws.

This is a simple science and sensory experiment to do in the classroom. The children loved making bubbles appear. They were learning that when they blew into the straw emerged in the water that it would produce bubbles.

Miss Emery making her bubbles.

Even teachers like to make bubble mountains!

Day 13 - A picture of your favorite band or artist.
