State Bird -- Chicken?

‘Morgan, they want you at the guard’s desk….’
This rendered a puzzled look on my part and a ‘why?’

‘Just come, they found a chicken and want to know if you will take it home’

Now, I give the WTH look to them and go downstairs to the gaggle that had formed around the chicken.

The chicken is in a box.  When I open it, I find a frightened 5-6 week old Rhode Island Red.  She’s so calm and sweet.  How could someone just leave her in a parking lot downtown?

I said I would take her.  Highway Patrol agreed to keep her in their office until the end of the day. And they wanted eggs from my chickens at home.

Now, here comes the twist, the cook in the cafeteria comes running out of the kitchen exclaiming, ‘Really, you all found a chicken?’ I told her yes.  She’s like ‘is it a little brown hen?” Again, yes. She then states ‘I thought I ran her over this morning. I call my son to come get her.’  I said okay and went on my merry way upstairs.  I told my co-workers what went down.  Then, the questioning started; #1 the cook rides the bus #2 How did her chicken manage to get downtown? #3 was she going to try to serve it in the cafeteria?  Disturbing…..

A few hours later, the guard came up and told me she doesn’t want the chicken anymore.  Her excuse, “The cat chases it.”

So, I took the chicken home.  Besides being hungry and dehydrated, she is healthy.  I gave her time to eat and drink and hang out, and then I introduced her to the other younger chickens.  Now they are all hanging out happily in their brooder.

It's been a long time friends...let's start with a recipe...

This has been a favorite of mine to make lately, it's super easy and oh so yummy... It's the Ooey Gooey Buttercake...

Recipe:
Crust
1 box of cake mix..I have used numerous kinds and they have all turned out yummy
1 egg
1/2 cup (1stick) butter, melted

Filling:
1 8 oz pkg of cream cheese, softened
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
16 oz powered sugar
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter

And of you are in the mood, throw in some chocolate chips or blueberries

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

Combine cake mix, egg and butter in a bowl. Mix very well.

Pat into the bottom of pan and set aside.

Beat cream cheese until smooth; add eggs and vanilla.

Dump in powdered sugar and beat very well.

Slowly pour in melted butter. Mix well.

Pour into pan.

Bake 40-50 minutes. You want the center to be a little gooey.

Warrior Dash Tips

This is my third year doing to Warrior Dash.  Just wanted to pass along some tips for you!

Here is the advice:
1.) Wear shoes you will not want to wear again. In fact they will get so muddy and there is a "donation pile" where many people leave their muddy post-race sneaks to go to Warrior Dash heaven.

2.) You will be started in a wave with hundreds of other people. When you get to an obstacle, you must commit to getting over/through it or risk being shoved aside or run over. If you need to catch your breath or strategize or watch how someone else gets over an obstacle.... stand back from the base of the obstacle. Once you are at the obstacle, commit and go!

3.) Many people (especially ladies or those with fancy costumes) hesitate at the first mud/water crossing and try to tiptoe, keep clean, and be somewhat prissy.... Mike says that by the end of the race everyone is covered with mud so you might as well dive right into the first one so you don't get shoved for slowing down the others behind you and besides, you will get a better time.

4.) If you know you will be going fairly slow, try to start late in your wave so you don't have so many people shoving past you.

5.) Watch Warrior Dash videos on You Tube. You will see how people get bottlenecked at the obstacles. They are also fun to watch how people traverse the obstacles.

6.) Enjoy the Beer and festivities afterwards! It's gonna be a blast.

I'm not doing so well here...

Well, on blogging. It looks like I've taken an unintentional break. I've been busy and haven't had a lot of time to blog. When I actually get on the computer, it seems that I do not get a lot accomplished.
